Leora Alexander Mixed Media Artist

My creativity is a collection derived from a variety of resources, visual experiences, and an in-depth research process. I observe and document scenes, both architectural and natural, identifying compositions of colors, shapes, and primarily, the light that falls on the subjects and defines them. I decode the 'image' and cut it into planes and layers, painting them on transparent plexiglass panels. I arrange the panels at intervals from one another, thus creating a three-dimensional visual experience.

From architectural scenes and architectural elements, I have created a series of layered paintings of stairs, transformed from photographs I took in various urban areas. Using a similar method, by incorporating recycled electronic components from computers, I created urban collages on multi-layered plexiglass panels. Here too, the result is an interpretation of the experience that arises from the photographs I take while wandering through urban spaces.

Another creative direction stems from the exploration of materials and colors. I create "order compositions" of grids and repetitive patterns by threading colorful satin ribbons into transparent polycarbonate channels. The properties of polycarbonate, with its small stripes and squares, enhance the visual impact of the patterns I create.
